Hi, I am Matt Magnuson and I will be serving you as the 2008 Sergeant of Arms. I was born and raised in Waterloo, Iowa. I left Waterloo when I joined the Army straight out of high school. I was lucky enough to be stationed on Oahu, Hawaii where I spent 4 years and more importantly, where I met my beautiful wife Shannon. I somehow managed to convince her to leave sunny paradise and return with me to my hometown. We have lived in Waterloo for the past 15 years and we have raised our family here. We have parented over 20 children in the Cedar Valley during our decade spent as foster parents. Our household is currently comprised of Shannon and I, Layne and Katie (both 15), Virginia (8), Jenneil (22), and her daughter Keilei (3). I have been a Cedar Rapids Police Officer for the past 11 years and have 19 years of military service, first active duty Army and then with the Iowa Army National Guard and most currently as a member of the Iowa Army Reserves. I have spent extended time in Germany and was among the first deployed troops at the onset of the Iraq war, where I spent a year and a half In Kuwait and Iraq. My military duty allows me to see much of our beautiful country and the world. I look forward to working with you all. |
